The Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance in Danbury recently announced the following grant:
New grant for Writers!
2010 Solo writers fellowship
The Solo Writers Fellowship provides a limited number of awards to writers of various genres who live or work in Connecticut. Four fellowships of $2,375 each will be awarded based on a panel's review of writer's application, work samples and professional work history. The purpose of this grant program is to reinforce the importance and value of writers within our community by supporting activities related to the artistic process, such as, but not limited to, rental fees, travel costs and/or living expenses while creating new work. We envision this grant program to support several weeks' worth of living and working in a temporary space that fosters imagination, focus and creativity.
Applications are due March 1, 2010. For more information, including Guidelines and Application forms, please go to www.letsgoarts.org/writersfellowship
This grant is made possible through the Beatrice Fox Auerbach Foundation Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, and administered by the Greater Hartford Arts Council.

Change to Blackboard Login
Login procedure for Blackboard has changed--you no longer use your Banner password to log in; you must use your Windows ID and Windows passworld. However, you must still use your Banner ID to log in to WestConnduit, if you use that path to get to the Blackboard login. Please see the message below from University Computing:
Blackboard Vista is again available and has been successfully re-configured to use your Windows username and password to log in.
You can no longer use your WestConnduit username and six-digit PIN for Blackboard Vista.
REMINDER: If you enter the wrong password for Blackboard Vista four times in a row, it will lock your Windows account for fifteen minutes. For faculty and staff, this will also lock your email for fifteen minutes.
A new web form will be available by 4:30 pm today at https://webapp.wcsu.edu/winpwd where you can change your Windows password even if you do not remember your current password. If your account has been locked out from too many failed log in attempts, changing your password through this form will unlock your account. You must have a WestConn email account (ConnectMail for students) before you can change your password. You will be asked for your Banner 8-digit ID (can be found from the Banner tab in WestConnduit), date of birth (DOB), last 4-digits of you SSN, and home zip code to verify your identity before you can change your password.

Some Good News
I'm excited to share that I'm now serving as the Managing Editor of Thin Threads, a book series about life changing moments put out by Kiwi Publishing. I'll be overseeing the manuscript selection process, helping to maximize the story collection process, and providing editing/revising for selected work. This, of course, is another hat I am wearing these days along with writer, teacher, consultant, speaker, and coach! I'm looking forward to learning a lot and contributing a lot during the partnership.
Kiwi Publishing is also publishing my anthology of women writers this spring! A sigh of relief as I won't have to solely manage the self-publishing process - more a fear of time constraints versus the task - but most importantly I feel my book is in good hands. I'm actually going to have a printed book! I am psyched.
Please know that Thin Threads is a great opportunity to get a publishing credit. Submission guidelines can be found on the website www.thinthreads.com. A permission fee of $100 is paid to the writer if accepted. There is a writing contest going on right now - $500 to the writer, $500 to their favorite charity. Details are also on the website.
As always, I hope as an MFA alumn (and currently WestConn writing instructor!) that the forward momentum in my writing career can also benefit others and vice versa.
Happy new year!
