ENcouraged by Kate's responses... help me too?

I know i have to do an internship next semester too, and I don't know where or what to do it in. I think a book publisher or a travel/woman's magazine would be best. I'm pretty flexible as to location; Connecticut, or I'll just move someplace else. In Florida now, but probably won't stay, at least, not this time ;-) A paid internship would rock my world, but a good experience is more important to me. Danke, peeps! Can't wait to see everyone in August!

Lizzy, I can put you in touch with someone at Ridgefield Press if you are interested in contacting them. You should also speak with Kalyn Paul, MFA grad, who is an editor and writer with a couple of magazines in southern Fairfield County.

sweet, danke, Brian. Do I have to have something lined up by the residency? I might get ambitious and try for some NYC publishers or magazines... there must be a website for hunting down writing internships, oh wait, isn't media bistro one of them? I'm not too good to fetch coffee for the gods of the literary world. Ok, I think I had too much coffee. This is so scattered. ;-)

Yes, it would be a good idea to have something in place by the residency. That will give you something to talk about with your internship mentor during student/faculty meetings. Plus, if you wait longer than that, you'll find yourself settling for anything you can find rather than doing something that really interests you.

Many job boards have been listing internships, some for summer, others appear longer term. Check out iabc.com (international association of business communicators), monster.com, craig's list (nyc jobs writing/editing) or women in communication (google for website.)

Hey Elizabeth,

Email me: kalynpaul@yahoo.com if you are interested in pursuing an internship at Westport, New Canaan Darien, or Greenwich Magazine. All our housed in the Westport office now. You would have to be available to go into the office at least one day a week, but they are pretty flexible with schedules. I hooked Matt Renfro up with an internship there and he is now a permanent part of their web staff. Let me know if you want me to make any calls for you, I'm happy to help any way I can. -Kalyn
