Sign Up Soon for Rosenberg and Mirskin!

Folks, thus far I have exactly two people signed up for the Rosenberg and Mirskin workshops on the 23rd and 24th. If I don't get more participants this week, we're going to have to cancel. So if you're interested, sign up now!

As one of the two signed up, I'll take the opportunity to make a plug. Liz Rosenberg is featured in the Tenth Book of Junior Authors and Illustrators.I pulled my copy off the shelf last night (compliments of my sister-in-law, who is the book's editor) and read up on Liz. I'm even more excited about attending her workshop. This woman has covered poetry, children's writing, and magazines. Her first full-length collection of poetry for adults was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and won the 1985 Agnew Starret Poetry Prize.

What a great opportunity to have her on campus! I will also add that every children's writing conference or workshop I attend makes a tremendous impact on my writing and writing career overall. It's a focused, disciplined, highly competitive genre and anything I've learned has been directly applicable to my "grown up" writing. So if you've hesitated because the description read children's and you didn't think it applied to what you write, I'd urge you to reconsider. Hey, even me (the "unpoet") has been able to learn a thing or two in a poetry workshop!!!

Hope if you can make the date you'll think about it.

Oh my goodness..I just read that sentence near the end of my comment. Horrors! Perhaps I need a grammar refresher! (Obviously I flunked the line editing session!)I've been killing my writing on Facebook and Twitter lately.

Well Anne talked me into the workshop - and I forgive her for that last sentence. (I don't think I can make it down in time for the reading)

Yea!!!! I'm note sure on the reading either, is that the same day? I'll double check. Glad you'll be joining us Laura! We'll have fun strolling down memory lane!!!

I also would like to encourage my MFA counterparts to support one or both of these workshops.

Brian and Laurel with the assistance of Lynn Paris-Purtle and Elizabeth Cohen have outdone themselves this semester by providing five workshops--Mira Nair, Dan Pope, Anthony Swofford, Rosenberg, and Mirskin. If you attended all five, you would be eligible to opt out of one of the residencies.

Numbers is one of the advantages of these workshops. The crowd is smaller than at our residencies, thus much more personal attention and more interactive discussion.

Hope to see you at one or both.

My apologies -- Make that six workshops this semester. While I attended the Jeffrey Davis reading, I did not attend the workshop.

Again, please support the MFA workshops by attending and encouraging others with similar interests to contact Brian and Laurel to gain a seat at the table.

What time is Mirskin's workshop on the 24th? If it's earlier in the afternoon, not at night, I would love to participate.
